primitivesRising_GLOW162f

Programmed in the JavaScript language, primitivesRising is an animated presentation, coupling basic geometric forms with subtle colors. These combinations are sublimely simple, familiar and shown without pretense. With only elementary changes in form, color becomes the focus. Movement is stilted, as though the observers themselves are caught in some rough-hewn time-lapse. A square and circle are seen. The circle expands inside the square until another circle is born, its elder circle fades out completely, as if a vision through fog.

Description

Programmed in the JavaScript language, primitivesRising is an animated presentation, coupling basic geometric forms with subtle colors. These combinations are sublimely simple, familiar and shown without pretense. With only elementary changes in form, color becomes the focus. Movement is stilted, as though the observers themselves are caught in some rough-hewn time-lapse. A square and circle are seen. The circle expands inside the square until another circle is born, its elder circle fades out completely, as if a vision seen in fog.

primitivesRising comprises several sub-collections, each with unique color sets. This set, “GLOW”, holds bright, lively and energetic color combinations. Each unique color combination in this set is displayed with one of two animation speeds. Titles ending in ‘s’ are slow, ‘f’ are fast. For example: primitivesRising_GLOW111s ends in ‘s’ as it is a slow speed animation. Another work titled, “primitivesRising_GLOW111f”, indicates a fast animation.

Among programmers, “Primitives” are basic geometric shapes derived from mathematical expressions. They are often the fundamental, constructing elements in 3D animated worlds. And, unlike motion video which permanently fixes images into pixels, script-derived art is constructed in the viewer’s browser at the moment of viewing. Equations become images: there are no pre-drawn frames or maps of pixels anywhere in the code. Mathematical expressions alone construct the entire visual work.

primitivesRising runs on most modern web browsers with IPFS-capability, entering fullscreen mode with a mouse or keyboard click. With portrait and landscape displays both supported, the art automatically resizes to the browser’s window. The secure link to artwork will be unlockable by the NFT’s Owner.

Note that the art is created in HTML/JavaScript and has been stored on IPFS. At transfer of ownership, the IPFS address will be revealed to the Owner. To remain visible, the art must be “pinned” on the IPFS storage system. IPFS “pinning” will be supported by the Creator/Artist or their designated representatives for three years after initial transfer from Creator/Artist to the first Owner/s. After that time, the current Owner/s or any subsequent Owner/s will be responsible for IPFS pinning. While infrequent, storage on IPFS has been known to occasionally be impermanent. If loss of availability due to IPFS storage failure should occur during the initial three years after transfer from Creator/Artist to first Owner/s, the Creator/Artist will make reasonable attempts to restore Owner/s ability to access and view the artwork on IPFS or comparable technology at that time.

Owner/s acknowledge that Creator/Artist, their representatives, heirs or assigns are not at any time responsible for network outages, technical failures or Acts of God which make the work (art and/or supporting coding) inaccessible or devalue the work. Availability of the work is not guaranteed.

primitivesRising was conceived and built by Sotol and Rainbow (Andy Schneider and Julie Rainbow Carey), Marfa, Texas.
